Mindful Parenting: Preparing Your Body for Pregnancy

Mindful parenting doesn’t start once you have children of your own. It starts when you decide to  try to conceive and have a family. There is a lot to be done before welcoming a child into the world: decorating a nursery, ultrasounds, baby supplies, and more. However, the most important preparation needs to happen inside your body first.

What Does Mindful Parenting Mean Prior to Pregnancy?

Prior to pregnancy, you can be mindful of your body’s health, nutrients, and general well being by making sure your “oven is ready for baking”. In doing so, you are setting yourself and your future baby up for optimal health. A healthy pregnancy starts before pregnancy. It is important to make your personal health the number one priority prior to conceiving.

Not sure how to do that? Here are some quick tips from us at LifeScape about getting your bod ready for that bump.

Cut out the alcohol, and definitely cut out smoking.

At LifeScape, we believe that alcohol does more harm to your body than good. While we understand that you might imbibe on occasion, preparing for conception is a time when you should completely abstain. And smoking? Trying to conceive or no, this habit can really hurt your beautiful body (and that of an unborn baby). Listen to the Surgeon General and just say “no”.

Aim for a healthy weight.

As we have said in previous posts, we don’t condone crash or fad diets. Especially since losing a lot of weight or gaining a lot of weight in a short period of time can really mess with your fertility. Use these health tips in order to ensure you are eating right and getting your body ready for its new adventure.

Consider your caffeine addiction.

While there is no exact amount of caffeine that pregnant women should or shouldn’t consume, the main consensus seems to be that those trying to conceive shouldn’t drink too much of it. So if you are a several cups of coffee a day kinda girl, now is the time to try and limit yourself down to one. Or better yet, switch to a healthier alternative such as green tea.

See your dentist.

Huh? Your dentist? What does that have to do with your babymaker? Well, a lot actually. Hormonal shifts during pregnancy can result in tender, swollen, or bleeding gums or other complications. If you get your mouth examined prior to conceiving, you will be less likely to have issues once you are actually pregnant.

Have a micronutrient test.

A micronutrient test can assess how well your body is utilizing vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and metabolites by measuring functional deficiencies at a cellular level. That’s right, at a cellular level. This test gets into the nitty gritty of what’s really going on inside your body which can help you and your doctor decide the next steps to take for optimal health.

How SpectraCell Laboratories Can Help You Be a Mindful Parent

Speaking of micronutrient tests, SpectraCell’s Micronutrient test does all of the above and more. It can help convey the body’s need for micronutrients that enable the body to produce enzymes, hormones, and other substances essential for proper growth, development, and health.

This test also provides the start of a personalized, functional approach in addressing a wide variety of clinical conditions. These conditions include arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular risk, diabetes, various immunological disorders, metabolic disorders and micronutrient deficiencies.

By taking this test, and taking measures to make sure that your body is as healthy as it could possibly be at a cellular level, you are practicing mindful parenting. You are becoming healthy so that your pregnancy, and your baby, can be healthy, too.
