Healthy Honeymoon Tips for the New Bride

So, you’re getting married - congratulations! This is a magical time, maybe one you’ve anticipated for months or years. Whether you’re having an intimate beach wedding, a sweet courthouse wedding, or a lavish party, your day will be fun, gorgeous, and perfect for you and your partner.

We’re sure you are so excited (and maybe a little stressed), but we know it’s going to be the most wonderful day. After the stress of planning a wedding, a mental detox during an awesome honeymoon is just the trick. But, how do you maintain that newlywed glow while traveling? Here are some tips for having a blast while still looking amazing on your honeymoon.

Healthy Honeymoon Tips Every Bride Needs to Know

Eat well. Just say “no” to fad diets.

If you’re approaching your wedding day, you might be tempted to try a fad “crash” diet in order to shed those last few pounds before the big day. To that, we say “don’t!” Not only do fad diets not usually work, but the last thing you need is to feel sick, tired, or even faint on your big day.

It’s more important than ever that you’re eating well. What does that mean? We wrote an entire post on health trends that actually work, but here are the basics:

  • Aim for at least half your plate to be a variety of colorful & green organic veggies
  • Avoid sugars, processed foods, meats, and vegetable oils
  • Eat organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and pasture-raised chickens
  • Consume healthy fats liberally – healthy fats include organic nuts and seeds, unsweetened nut butters, avocado/oil, Extra virgin olive oil, grass-fed butter/ghee, and coconut oil

If you eat well and stay away from fad diets or crazy cleanses, you’ll feel great and achieve that bridal glow.

Wear sunscreen. Lots of it.

This is important in normal life, but especially important on your honeymoon. If you’re honeymooning on an island or beach somewhere, it’s even more important. Did we mention that it’s important?

Wearing sunscreen can help shield your precious skin from harmful UV rays, help prevent skin cancer, and keep your skin looking youthful. Sun damage ages your skin and can cause discoloration, melasma, and a whole host of other issues. So be sure to wear a broad spectrum mineral based or physical sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. The sunscreen in your make-up does not count - you typically don’t wear enough foundation to have the proper coverage needed to combat the UV rays.

Basically, if you want to keep that newlywed look, wear sunscreen daily, plus an extra layer, on your honeymoon.

Drink more water than usual.

Traveling, especially on planes, can cause dehydration. The lack of humidity in the airplane’s cabin can completely zap your system, especially on long trips (such as, you guessed it, going on your honeymoon). If you are drinking several of those honeymoon-y umbrella drinks, and they have alcohol in them, you are also in danger of becoming dehydrated.

Be sure to drink water throughout the day, especially between alcoholic beverages, in order to stay hydrated and healthy. If you are visiting a country where the water is not safe, plan ahead and buy plenty of bottled water to use in your hotel room. Every organ in your body needs water, so don’t neglect this important tip.
