You’ve certainly heard of botox injections before - countless celebrities get them and probably many people in your life (you just might not know it). We are born with an abundance of collagen (i.e. adorably round cheeks on babies). However, as we age, our supply of collagen starts to wane. As the supply depletes, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles starts to increase, which unfortunately equals less youthful looking skin.
But it doesn’t have to remain this way. Botox is commonly used to reduce the look of those fine lines and wrinkles and give you back some of that smooth plumpness you desire.
You might be wondering “what exactly IS botox?” Well, we’ve broken it down for you.
Botox Injections - What Are They?
Botox injections, otherwise known as botulinum toxin injections, can be used medically to treat certain muscular conditions, but it can also be used cosmetically to reduce the look of wrinkles. Currently, this treatment is the most popular cosmetic treatment - there are 6 million injections administered every year! Cosmetic use is what we focus on at Lifescape Premier.
Here’s how it works.
The injection blocks certain chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals that would cause the muscles to contract. By doing this, the muscles which are causing those wrinkles and lines start to relax and are essentially paralyzed. This reaction is what smooths out your face and creates a more youthful looking appearance. Pretty cool, right?
However, even though it’s a relatively simple, non-surgical process, it must always, always be done by a licensed medical professional, such as a nurse or doctor.
Get it done by a licensed medical professional. Seriously.
Risks are extremely minor with this procedure, but minor risks can quickly become serious ones if botox is not administered by a nurse or doctor who is licensed and knows what they are doing. The injections must be placed in precisely the right points in order to avoid any negative side effects.
It’s very important to verify that the injector is licensed before completing the treatment. Unfortunately, there are imposters out there, so do your research and ensure the person administering your treatment is trusted and professional.
For example, at Lifescape Premier we have a resident botox injector who is licensed and has 15 years of experience under her belt. Read more about Charity Correa, N.P. here and check out Lifescape's aesthetics services.
Don’t worry about looking overdone.
While everyone seems to have the same terrible fear that their face will look “frozen” like it does in comedic movies, this just isn’t the case. Botox results can be very mild, though effective. Many people say they are told that they look more awake or rested and a little more youthful (in a good way). This treatment reduces the look of wrinkles and lines, it doesn’t completely change your face. You’ll still look like you!
Many people start to notice results from their treatment within 3 to 10 days. These results tend to last around 3 to 4 months in most people. After that, the muscle activity starts to return to normal.
If you are looking to reduce the look of aging on your skin and are considering botox injections, we say “do it”! Do your research and have it done with a licensed medical professional. You’ll love how glowing and youthful you look after the treatment.
